This world, both hectic and chaotic is full of noise. We need time away from all the distractions. Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray. Being alone in the quiet helps us to focus on God, to listen to Him, and to gather strength in the Lord. I remember, some years ago, how I was angry with my husband. I flew off the handle and raged at him. I have no idea what it was all about, now, but I remember later reflecting on my behavior. I asked God to show me why I reacted the way I did. The answer was, I was not angry with my husband, but angry about a certain situation not involving my husband. I later apologized and asked for his forgiveness. In that solitude, God spoke clearly to me about what my anger was all about. I often need silence to think deeply, pray, and listen to God. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the wisdom you have given me in silence. Please help me to carve out time each day for silence and solitude to pray and to listen. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Ecclesiastes 3:7: “There is a time to rend and a time to sew, a time to be silent and a time to speak.”
