A list of seven deadly sins was first compiled by Pope Gregory around the year 600. They are lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. They are not listed specifically in the Bible, but Proverbs 6:16-19 says, “These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him.” They are a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
I personally witnessed the latter, one who sows discord among brethren. It was at my place of work. One person who ‘seemed’ to have authority continually dissed two co-workers to the rest of the staff and anyone who came into that office. It was an extremely uncomfortable situation and a toxic environment. It bothered me so much that I finally quit that job. My emotional health then surged. Sometimes, we must remove ourselves from these surroundings to gain peace of mind and heart. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your continued love and support for your people. Help us to be patient with others and to stand up for what is right. Keep us always from the temptation of these deadly sins. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Romans 16:17: “I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.”
