In two weeks, there will be a total solar eclipse. What does this mean? The moon will appear almost as large as the sun in the sky, blocking the sun for a few minutes. Interestingly, this year, the path of the eclipse will travel over seven cities named Nineveh across the United States. Remember Nineveh in the Bible? The prophet Jonah was told to go to Nineveh to warn the people of God’s impending doom for their city if they didn’t change their ways. The king and all the people of Nineveh repented for their sins, and the city was saved. So, is an eclipse a warning to God’s people or a miraculous sign of the wonder and magnificence of God? Maybe both, we don’t know. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the Sun, the stars, the moon, and all the luminaries you created at the beginning of time. We praise you alone, our great God, for Your great glory and majesty throughout the world. Please help us to pay close attention to your signs and omens in the sky. All honor and glory are Yours, Oh Lord! Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
