You’ve heard the saying, “Idleness is the devil’s workshop.” It is true. God did not put us on this earth to be lazy and idle. We are to work. Work gives us a sense of purpose. Even when I retired ten years ago, I knew God wanted me to be productive. There are many opportunities to volunteer in your community or in your church. The Apostle Paul said that those who waste their time in idleness or a non-productive manner are easily led to sin. Idlers often become gossips and busybodies. They meddle in other people’s business and stand in the way of their progress. That’s why we all need a specific goal or purpose in our lives. Inactivity is a temptation that has infiltrated our culture with the help of social media, gaming, and watching movies. Dear Heavenly Father, please help us keep our hands and minds busy and not open the door to the devil’s temptation. Place Your purpose for us in our hearts so that we may continue good works here on earth. We praise You and thank You for Your mercy and aid. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen. 1 Timothy 5:13: “Moreover, as they go about from house to house, they learn to be idlers, and not only idlers but gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not say and talking of things they should not mention.”
