The Bible warns us to stay away from false prophets and false friends. In the Old Testament, Job’s friends accused him of wrongdoing instead of supporting him. In Psalm 41, David describes a frenemy as someone who acts like a friend but then gossips about you and speaks evil of you. A quote I read by Habeeb Akande said: “Fake friends are like shadows, always near you at your brightest moments, but nowhere to be seen at your darkest hour.” I’m sure we have all had some phony friends. We must learn to discern our friendships to know who we can trust. We need to make sure their words and actions are congruent. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Son, Jesus, our true brother and friend. Thank You, too, for our true friends and family that surround us. Help us to discern people in our lives to know their hearts. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Proverbs 12:26 “The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.”
