Pondering Thoughts of My Soul

The biblical meaning of sloth is laziness that comes from carelessness about the commands and priorities of God, which wastes the resources that God has given us.  God calls us to be diligent workers for His kingdom.  He wants us to be eager to serve Him.  Remember the parable of the three talents?  The master called his servants together and entrusted his property to them while he was away on a long journey.  Two of the servants increased the master’s money, but the third hid his money in a hole in the ground for fear he would lose it.  When the master returned, he rebuked the third servant, calling him wicked, lazy, and idle.  Sloth can lead to serious sin because it can lead to spiritual death.  Dear Heavenly Father, we praise You and thank You for all the blessings you have granted us.  Help us always to be eager to serve you and not to waste our talents by idleness.  Keep us always focused on You, Lord, and not on ourselves.  In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.  Proverbs 12:24: “The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slothful will be put to forced labor.”
